Have you ever been stuck and not known which direction to go? Or felt indecisive and plagued by too many options? I have.
Hi, my name is Seth Walker.
I started my career back in 2005 after graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a business degree. After 7 successful years in the software business, I decided to make the leap into management consulting. I loved it.
Working with a Big 4 consulting firm was quite an experience. I traveled all over the US, slowly perfecting my ability to deliver fast and polish my presentation skills. It felt pretty good to be part of such a large organization with so my talented people. I felt I was well on my way to achieving the career I dreamed about.
Eventually, the travel was too much and I found myself realizing how much I missed my family (I have a wife and 3 young kids). I was on the road too much and it was taking it's toll. I found an awesome opportunity at a small boutique consulting firm where I was employee #20. It was risky compared to a large consulting firm of 200,00 people! But I was ambitious and there was definite upside potential in such a budding company.
This is the point where my career started to stall. Whether it was the work, the people, or circumstances outside of the office, I felt like I was drifting. Like I was just showing up to do a job. I wasn't passionate about my work anymore. I felt deep down that I needed a change. But I didn't know what....
I spent the next year trying to figure out why I was so disconnected from my work. Was it the work itself? Did I no longer enjoy what I was doing? Had I hit a point where I felt like my job wasn't a career anymore? Why wasn't I motivated to stick it out? Why did I feel like I needed a change so bad?
After months of pondering my circumstances, ONE thing eventually became very clear to me. And this is EXTREMELY important.
In fact, this is the single most common thing I hear from people hit the "career wall".
I wasn't sure what my goals were anymore. I had achieved my long-term goals from 10 years prior and never reset. I felt I was drifting because I was driving to nowhere in particular! I had no real direction was simply "showing up" to work.
I hear this from people ALL THE TIME. From people of all ages and backgrounds. NOBODY KNOWS WHAT THEY WANT TO DO WHEN THEY GROW UP! This is a HUGE problem that impacts many, many people! And it's becoming more and more common.
Imagine showing up every day to a job you simply tolerate, or even worse, a job you flat out hate (did I trigger a nerve yet?!). Imagine if you thought that achieving "work-life balance" (whatever that means)" is more important than finding meaning in the work you do. I mean, who can argue that spending time with family and friends isn't more important than work?
So here's the deal....these things are all true.
Having a life outside of work IS super important. And doing work you LOVE and fulfills you IS absolutely essential to your health and happiness.
So why do so many people accept the job they have (even if they can't stand it) as only a means to an end?
I know I did. I took my career path for granted. I started not investing in myself. And in turn, I lost the passion for my work. I hate that for myself and more important I hate to see others experience the same.
But here's what I realized. Here's the real secret, and it's absolutely 100% true: ANYTHING IS ACHIEVABLE WITH ENOUGH FOCUS, KNOWLEDGE AND SUPPORT, and DIRECTION!
Yes, I said it. ANYTHING IS ACHIEVABLE! And, I truly believe it. No matter your circumstances.
Your're probably thinking, yeah yeah yeah, Seth, I've heard that before and it doesn't apply to me. But I'm serious. And it boils down to three things. Are you ready?
That's it! That's the secret sauce. Pretty simple, huh? Ok, the proof is in the pudding. And by no means are these three steps simple. But, if followed in detail, these three steps WILL land you the career and life you want.
This has helped me tremendously. I'm no longer in a career that leaves me unfulfilled. I still have a full time job in the software industry and love what I do.
I started this company to help people navigate their careers. Careers are never clear cut and often messy. I want to help you achieve your goals - no matter how crazy or far fetched they seem.
I firmly believe It's my calling in life to serve people. And help you break through that "wall" that I hit in my own career. I want to help you get past whatever barriers are keeping you from achieving your wildest dreams.
Whether that's simply giving you some feedback on you resume, or recurring coaching sessions to help you get where you want to go, faster.
My mission is to give you the tools, processes and strategies that I've personally developed and used over the past 10 years, to help you find a career you can be proud of, and ultimately create a happier more fulfilling life.
It would be my honor to help you journey through your career.
